One of the things we do a lot of here at Otamate Eco Village is pick, peel, cut up and cook apples!
Patricia, Marijke's mum, loves to help. She's lovely, but getting older and very forgetful, which makes for some funny conversations. While peeling she asked which bowl was for peels and which for cut up apples about every 2 minutes!
She also often says things that throw us off a bit, b/c we forget that her memory is going, here are some of our favorites:
DJ: Patricia, are you ready for lunch?
Patricia: Well, yes, now how much should I bring in the way of money?
DJ: Nothing at all, we're just going down to the house.
Patricia: Well THAT'S A GOOD SERVICE, isn't it!?
Kathy: Patricia, I'll come get you at your house when dinner is ready
Patricia: Really, all the way at 24 Rutherford Lane? Isn't that quite a distance?
Kathy (confused): Um, no at your house just up the hill.
Patricia: Oh... right.
(DJ is looking for something...)
Patricia: What is it you are looking for?
DJ: Oh, I need an extension cord.
Patricia: Well I've got one right here. (She opens her clothes closet and starts rummaging through her pants and hung up blouses) 4 min later...
DJ: Um... actually I'm all set. (runs away)
Patricia to Kathy: If you need the toilet you know it's just up the hill at my house.
Kathy (been here for a week): Oh, yup, I know where it is.
Patricia: Well I would make you a cup of tea but the kettle is broken.
Kathy (who had just made tea from the kettle): Oh? I'm all set thanks.
