OK, so not so organic, but necessary to keep the young trees from being swallowed up by the field grass. The eco village is trying to re-forest some of the steeper paddocks on the shared land. Unlike New England, it is actually difficult to grow trees in a cleared area of New Zealand. You have to nurture them carefully for a number of years before they will do alright on their own.
