Mt. Cook, elev. 12,316 ft

Mt. Cook is the tallest mountain in NZ. This is our first glimpse of it.

An avalanche roaring off of Mt. Sefton. There were about 10 avalanches per day in this valley, mostly off of Mt. Sefton. Every one of them sounded like a rumbling thunder.
