Building.... Naturally!

This is George and Hilary's strawbale house. They have been working on it for 2 years, and it is getting very close. The best part, they have done EVERYTHING themselves. The walls are made of timber framing, strawbale insulation, and cob (clay, sand, and straw mix) plaster.

Kathy mixing up some cob plaster. Rob is giving her a hand.

A view inside the walls, yes it is simply STRAW

DJ's project was to stuff the burlap around the door and make a nice curve with the cob plaster.

How did he do?

Kathy had a window to do the same with.

Burlap all stuffed.

How did she do?

Exterior all plastered in cob.

These little fantail birds kept visiting us in the house. They have a very loud peep, but they were welcomed, as they were eating lots of the flies in the house.

  3. This is so incredible... great pictures! And SO COOL to know that you guys learned how to do this! It's how we were thinking our houses would be built! We learned how to do cobb too, but in a different way I'm imagining... I can't wait to share knowledge and build our houses here!
