The Forgotten World Highway

That's where we ended up on our drive from Tongariro to our next volunteer stay in New Plymouth. We laughed a bit at the name, but still thought we had chosen the best (read: quickest) route.

After 3 hours of wandering up and down the mountain passes of these endless spires, we realized that probably the Forgotten Highway was best left... Forgotten.

In our 4th hour we had some good excitement as we got to help a farmer herd his sheep, we used the vanette! Who knew Vixen would be good at herding sheep? Then again, she is from New Zealand.

The "troll cave", this single lane tunnel had dirt walls, and a rickety A-frame roof that was "a bit dodgey" as the Kiwis would say. We drove through it 3 times just so we could get a good video of what it was like to drive through.

... and 5 1/2 hours later we were in New Plymouth!!
